In general terms, you only need to worry about this if the component comes with a ground wire. That wire needs then to be attached to an ‘earth’ connection on your amp or an external phono amp.

The number-one cause of unusual audio noise and weird video is the ground loop, simply because it’s so darned easy to create. The most common manifestations are a loud buzz or hum coming through ... In an electrical system, a ground loop or earth loop is an equipment and wiring configuration in which there are multiple paths for electricity to flow to ground. The multiple paths form a loop which can pick up stray current through electromagnetic induction which results in unwanted current in a conductor connecting two points that are supposed to be at the same electric potential, often, but ... Oct 28, 2016 · Ground loops often occur when connecting multiple electronic devices together because no two grounds are ever exactly at the same potential, which induces flow. Even a very low (voltage) potential difference causes current to flow from one unit’s ground to the other unit and back to the first unit through the additional ground connection provided by the power distribution network. Dec 06, 2005 · A ground loop typically adds a loud low-frequency hum or buzz as soon as you plug in any of various audio or video components, including subwoofers, cable-TV outboard boxes, satellite-TV feeds, TV displays, amplifiers, A/V receivers or turntables.

You can buy the optional extra 4mm ground cable to give the audio system the best possible ground, but it will ONLY actively provide a ground if it detects the lack of one. It will not create a ground loop. 'Smart Polarity and Ground' Detection. When it comes to mains AC, there are two common errors which people can make when setting up a system. Jan 12, 2015 · There was no way I could thereby securely mount the cartridge to the headshell. I hope to have it back next week. But that wasn't my only problem. Dec 04, 2020 · I have had a similar problem with my AR turntable and the loud hum was when the tonearm ground came off. There has to be a ground from the tonearm to the grounds for the L and R outputs. If you can figure out how to temporarily add a separate ground wire from the tonearm to output ground you may get your answer. So I'm assuming the hum comes from somewhere in the turntable's signal chain. I figured an easy, inexpensive fix would be to replace the RCA connectors with a ground loop isolator but after a quick ebay search, I am overwhelmed by all the options to say the least. My turntable is a Denon DP-300F and my amp is a Kenwood KA-3500.

To do this, simply connect the "ground" lead of the meter to the earth "ground" pin of your a.c. socket, then connect the other meter lead to the "hot" pin of your a.c. line. You should read between 115 to 125 volts a.c. Next, move your "hot" meter lead to the "neutral" pin of the ac. line.
